Parking in the Sandias
There is a $3 daily parking fee in the Sandias. Those who
think they
will be frequenting the Sandias might consider purchasing an annual pass for
$30 (good for 2 vehicles and valid for a year following the month of
purchase) or an Interagency Recreation Pass for $80.
For more information visit the Cibola NF webpage:
www.fs.fed.us/r3/cibola.
Conditions:
It will probably be quite dry.
Fungi:
Due to the Sandia's relatively dry winter and very dry spring,
it's difficult to be optimistic about encountering fungi. Nonetheless,
during this time in past years, we have encountered some Peziza, and
occasionally find snowbank fungi such as Discina and Caloscypha. We may also
encounter fresh fruitings of
Auricularia (wood ears). We expect the group would also be
delighted to chase down and capture some slime molds.
Equipment:
Sturdy footwear and plenty of drinking water.
Notes:
This Outing is primarily a mycological field trip for
Don Natvig's UNM Fungal Biology class, but we encourage
NMMS members to participate as
well.
