Mycological Field Trip
Jemez
Saturday, 19 June 2010
Details:
We met at the La
Cueva
a little before 10:00, and departed at 10:15.
Conditions:
It was pretty dry (not unexpected) in the areas we visited.
Several USFS vehicles were racing up FR 144 to deal with a small fire, and
a much larger fire was evident further north. (Ah, Summer in New Mexico.)
Fungi:
Other than an uninspiring specimen I believe was
Lycogala (wolf milk slime), FR 604
was a bust.
However, FR 144 was marginally productive. Marjorie spotted a not exactly
ponderous fruiting of Neolentinus ponderosus (aka Lentinus
p.) at the base of what we
assume was a very decayed Pinus ponderosa (Ponderosa Pine). The
Longenbaughs also found a couple of earthstars (Geatsrum sp.).
